November Rain

Get the high resolution version here.

When most people think of San Diego, they envision lots of sun and sand, mild temperatures, and a bustling downtown.  Just 50 miles east, however, lie the Cleveland National Forest and Rancho Cuyamaca State Park, offering 6,000+ foot peaks, highly variable weather, and even a change of seasons.  The region also boasts wild turkey, southern mule deer, mountain lion, and black bear.

The Jordan Brothers set out on a day hike to get out of the city and to try to catch some views of the desert and the ocean from the summit of Cuyamaca Peak, but the weather gods had something else in mind.  Though they ended up cold and waterlogged, the trip was well worth it to witness nature’s fury - complete with 50+ mile per hour winds, rain, sleet, snow, and hail - and enjoy a bit of New Englad-esque winter - in November - in Southern California.

The only intelligent thing I heard in the whole clip was Philip’s sudden revelation that packing foul weather gear and warm clothes would be an easy thing to do. Starting with the first trip up Mt. Washington, it is almost as if you two are trying to create a survival series to test Darwin’s theory. I am sorry to be so harsh, but truly, guys, you have enough experience now to know better.

With love and continuing (and believe me, heartfelt) prayers.

How about bringing warm clothes with you? And I love Phil’s strategy for a Mountain Lion encounter. Do your parents watch these videos?

  3. Jordan Brother 1 Says:

I know I speak for Phil when I say that we appreciate the concern. I can’t promise we’ll try to be more careful and prepared for our adventures in the future, but we’ll TRY to try. In your prayers, accept the fact that we are indeed stupid, and pray rather that we are never FATALLY stupid. And, mom, by the way, your genes are at least partially responsible for the lunacy that permeates our adventures. Nature vs. Nurture? You had a hand in both!

You’ve gotta be kiddin! Living in SD for 15 years, I’ve only seen it hail 3 times. By math, that’s 1/1825 chance to get hit with it. I was just thinking if you were out there last year at this time, u would have been stuck in the wild fire!
(PS. mount lion is rare but there might be something like a money hanging off the tree… if you look closer… especially on a hailing day. lol)

    Laddies,

Your mother, being your mother, is quite kind.

I think you should re-name this episode “Mo and Ron Take a Hike.”

Thank God I am drinking wine with your mother while I watch this. It looks like you’re adding chapters to the book, INTO THIN AIR. I especially like the bermuda shorts. I mean, really. You could have put ponchos and tents and leggings in the pockets. God, it is hysterical.

The last thing I would like to say is this: How is this Renaissance Men?
